Promoting Literacy Book Tour Stops for August - UPDATED!

With summer reading programs in full swing, young horse lovers can be persuaded to fulfill their requirements by perusing books about real horses, such as my expanding collection of true short stories in the Beloved Horses series. Each book describes a variety of breeds and disciplines and is sure to please even the reluctant readers.

I'll be promoting literacy as I travel cross-country in August with my husband, Bob, and our Irish Terrier, Woogie. My goal is to share my passions of horses and books with children of all ages during the month long book tour.

Besides talking about my life as a professional horsewoman, I explain how a special horse inspired me to begin writing. Beloved School Horses was published shortly after closing our Unicorn Stable in Pennsylvania, and I'm currently interviewing for the fifth book.

The Beloved Horses series is a collection of illustrated true short stories about the amazing bonds between horses and their riders. The first book is about the unsung heroes in the horse world – the school horse – based on the lesson mounts in my barn. As I traveled and marketed my books at horse events and tack shops, other horse owners wanted to share their stories. And so the series was born. Horse lovers of all ages enjoy the memories.

Besides talking about writing and horses at the events, I sell signed copies of my eight books, horse and dog novelties and offers a craft project – decorating a real horseshoe with sequins and bling. My Irish Terrier, Woogie, will join me at the Gulf Beaches Library for the Kick Off Event for my Promoting Literacy Summer Book Tour. I'll talk about goal setting, and share my passions of horses, dogs, travel and writing. I'll give a Power Point presentation on Woogie's first book and a sneak peak about his next one. Fun at School!

I had a wonderful reception at the school in Jupiter, Florida. My niece, Rachael, and her 3rd grade reading teacher, Mary Alice Shepler, had invited me to speak to the 120 students about my passions of horses, dogs and writing.

I explained how my first goal (made when I was 11 years old) was to own a stable in 10 years. A special horse named Fawn, helped me achieve my dream. (That's me on Fawn on the screen, swimming in the Atlantic!)

I operated Unicorn Stables for 25 years and when Fawn died suddenly, she inspired me to make a second goal - write a book - so I could share her story.

So, I took writing courses and my first children's novel was published in 1993. Since then I've had seven other books released, including Beloved School Horses which includes heartwarming stories about some of the horses from my stable and how they impacted the lives of children and adults who learned to ride on them.

I also shared my dog book, Woogie's Travels - Looking for a Friend, and gave a preview about his next one. It will be about our Irish Terrier and our cross-country trip this summer visiting national parks and our author visits at libraries, therapy programs etc., as well as St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Florida School Visit

I've been invited to speak about my experiences in writing at my niece's 3rd grade class at the Limestone Creek Elementary in Jupiter, Florida. They'll enjoy Woogie's Travels!

I'll be staying with my sister-in-law and her children the night before and then visit the school on Monday, May 23rd.

I'll also stop by the local library and saddle shops.

Should be lots of fun!
