The Wildcat Orphan Book Tour!

My newly released novel, The Wildcat Orphan, was inspired by family stories about my maternal grandfather, George Gibbons Hayes. As a seven-year-old orphan, he was shipped by train from NY to a small mining town west of Denver. The assigned family failed to meet him, so the town drunk who found the young boy at the train station the next morning took him home. George grew up there and became the self-proclaimed Rockhound of the Rockies - a mine assayer - as well as an author of non-fiction mining books, a rural postman and a WWI veteran.

In my novel for middle grade readers and up, George "Mac" McDill is sent by train in 1897 to Colorado due to his quick temper at his first foster home. He falls in love with the mountains, the cowboy lifestyle there and the kind family who take him in. But he in confronted by dangerous foes including a train robber and mountain lion, and a mysterious box to open.
